Chocolate Chip M&M Cookies

Janet, a family friend of over 30 years, handed down this recipe to me when she heard I was learning to cook. She said it was simple and easy to make- the perfect start for a beginner!

Although I slightly changed it up by adding M&M’s, I know that the love from the original recipe will surely shine through. (The photo of the recipe is courtesy of her Daughter-in-Law Lindsey!)

Chocolate Chip M&M Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup butter flavor crisco

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup M&Ms


  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Combine flour, baking soda and salt into a small bowl. Beat crisco, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs beating them well, then gradually beat in the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Drop golf ball sized dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Press M&Ms into the dough, making sure you can see the candies on the top.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool on wire racks or brown paper. Then enjoy!


  • I use brown paper because it absorbs the extra grease!
