Puppy Chow

I had the honor of being a guest speaker in Charlotte’s Classroom! I shared all about being a “Chef” and what it takes to make a recipe!

First, we read “Cooking with the Grinch” and then we made “Puppy Chow” for his dog, Max! (And the students too of course!) I adapted this recipe from an old cut-out from a magazine.

I loved seeing these kid chefs in action!

  • 9 cups rice chex

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar


  • Pour rice chex into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, vanilla and butter into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave at 10 second increments until blended and smooth.
  • Coat chex mix with chocolate mixture.
  • Place powdered sugar into a gallon sized bag. Add chex mixture into the bag and then shake, making sure the pieces are evenly coated.
